ECHCIC

About the Club

Sixth Formers from Eton and Holyport manage a charitable fund of around £50,000.

Eton and Holyport

Holyport students sit on the Internal Board alongside Eton students. They research companies, present recommendations and vote on trades; decisions belong to the student board, not the external advisors.

Holyport is a state-funded boarding school founded in 2014 in partnership with Eton. The Club’s fund is owned by Eton and managed through an execution-only trading account, with oversight from a Board of Trustees.

Who makes the decisions

The Internal Board decides which trades to make. Research analysts prepare recommendations; external advisors attend meetings and give feedback.

Advisory Board

3 external finance professionals

Join board meetings periodically, in person. They question decisions and raise concerns, but mainly listen and give feedback. They are kept informed through the newsletter and annual report.

Internal Board

Executive Officers and Sector Leaders from both schools

Holds sole voting power on all trades. Executive Officers (CEO, CFO, COO, CTO) chair meetings, run the Club and oversee the newsletter and annual report. Sector Leaders proofread recommendations and present sector-level macro trends.

Research Analysts

B and C Block students

Write and present stock recommendations (Buy, Watch, Hold or Sell), individually or in teams, and contribute to the newsletter. Analysts consult their Sector Leader before presenting to the board.

Affiliates

D and E Block students

Sit in on board meetings, attend the Investment Society, read the newsletter and annual report, and access the Club's Microsoft Teams and OneNote library.

How a trade happens

  1. Research

Analysts research a company and write a Buy, Sell or Trim report, covering the business, valuation, risks and a target price.

  2. Review

The relevant Sector Leader proofreads and challenges the thesis before it reaches the board.

  3. Present

The recommendation is presented at a board meeting of one hour or less, in person. Affiliates can ask questions.

  4. Vote & execute

The Internal Board votes. Approved trades are executed through an execution-only account, with the fund owned by Eton and overseen by trustees.

  5. Report

A newsletter each term covers trades and portfolio state. An annual report sets out every trade, portfolio changes and incoming and outgoing members.
